Early morning flights are a treat if you are interested in geography, photography. It is a treat provided homework is done. First check the flight path of the travel. Check the seat configuration to know which seat to request for clear photography angles. Now pull out your atlas before going to google maps. Map the flight path with the geography. The passes, ravines, water bodies, green patch's of farm lands, desolate stretches of dry river beds. On clear days glimpse a wisp of smoke spiraling up or a tiny craft on the water. Through your camera zoom ...
Sleeping in flight on long hauls between 4 am to 7 am and 5 pm and 7 pm is a wasted opportunity. Even if one is not a photography enthusiast or interested about the topography, the sunrise and sunsets alone make it worth while. My first experience I thought that the colours of the sky in the film Ten Commandments must have been shot from air.
Now that I know that photography from inside the aircraft is allowed, my trusted and faithful Canon Power Shot SX1 is what I first place in my handbag.
These are pictures of the Zagros Mountains taken from my window seat...
