Vinay Sitapati has succinctly developed the profile of the Aspirational Indian in Indian Express /29May/ Opinion.
Everyone knows that product ads that promise fair and glowing skin are not going to change skin colour, the exchange is towards building the confidence of the user. The question is while this may be true for 80 % of the populous, what about the festering discontent of the 20% who are not looking for materialism but have deep rooted ideas on self expression, identity? Will aspirational fulfilment work here with economic upsurge or will the unrest of identities continue to necessitate a more creative, empathetic solution?
Rahul Pandita discusses the need for moral coherence in his editorial in The Hindu/ May 28.
If the past is irrelevant for the aspirational segment and tomorrow is the promise of things to come, for the section seeking self identity, past is the only relevance for the shaping of tomorrows. A need for speaking from the heart and not with a piece of iron.
